BIOL407 | MOLECULAR CELL BIOLOGY OF NEURAL STEM CELLS

This is an authentic lab class with the overall objective to provide participants with a molecular cell biology research experience.

The learning goals of this class are:

  • Understand, plan, setup and maintain genetic crosses using Drosophila melanogaster

 

  • Understand basic molecular cell biology techniques and be able to independently design and construct a piece of recombinant DNA.

  • Understand basic cell biology techniques such as cell transfection and confocal microscopy.

  • Collect microscopy data from living cells and analyze the data quantitatively.

  • Present the collected, analyzed and interpreted data in a clear and logical manner in both written and oral form.

BIOL355 | FOUNDATIONS IN CELL/MOLECULAR BIOLOGY

This course serves as an overview of fundamental concepts and techniques in cell and molecular biology.  Students focus on the following core concepts:

  • Cell division

  • Cell fusion

  • Cell movement

  • Cellular asymmetry

  • Endomembranes

  • Genome editing
